Best shipping software for e-commerce in 2026
5 tools evaluated
Depends on your operation
There is no single best shipping platform for every e-commerce seller. ShipStation is the best default for US-heavy sellers running their own fulfillment. Sendcloud is strongest for EU operations. Easyship is best for cross-border checkout and duties/taxes. Shippo is the easiest free starting point under 30 labels/month. ShipBob is the right choice when you want outsourced fulfillment instead of shipping software. The cost swing between these options can be 50-100x at the same shipment volume because they solve different problems.
Use case comparison at a glance
The fastest way to find your pick is by use case, not feature count.
| Use case | Best pick | Why | Avoid if |
|---|---|---|---|
| US domestic self-fulfillment | ShipStation | Most refined batch workflow, broad integrations, fastest support response | Cross-border tax/duty is core to your business |
| EU-based fulfillment | Sendcloud | 160+ EU carriers, localized tracking pages, customs handling | US-only seller |
| Cross-border, 20%+ international | Easyship | Landed cost at checkout, 550+ couriers, DDP/DDU automation | Mostly US domestic |
| Under 30 labels/month | Shippo | Free Starter plan, no fixed monthly fee | You need deep automation or reporting |
| Want outsourced fulfillment | ShipBob | Stores inventory, picks, packs, ships from US fulfillment centers | You want shipping software only, not 3PL |
Best for US self-fulfillment — ShipStation
ShipStation is the most refined shipping software for US-domestic-dominated SMB sellers managing their own warehouse. In our test, batch label printing processed 500+ labels in under 60 seconds. The dashboard UX is mature. Median support response across 3 tickets in March-April 2026 was 2-4 hours.
The pricing structure changed in mid-2025. The current 3-tier model is Starter $14.99/mo (50 shipments), Standard $29.99/mo (500 shipments), Premium $349.99/mo (high volume). Native integrations cover Shopify, Amazon, eBay, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Etsy, Walmart, TikTok Shop, plus 70+ carriers.
Who should not use ShipStation: sellers where international shipments are 20%+ of volume and customs/duties are a recurring source of friction. ShipStation supports DHL Express and major international carriers but lacks Easyship's depth on regional couriers and landed-cost display at checkout.
Editor's pick: 9.1/10.
Best for EU operations — Sendcloud
Sendcloud was built for European e-commerce and supports the regional carriers that US-first platforms miss. Paid plans include 160+ EU carriers covering PostNL, DPD, DHL Parcel, GLS, Colissimo, and more. The free plan covers 70+ carriers with limited automation. Tracking notifications render in up to 8 languages on Growth tier. Returns portal is included on paid plans.
Pricing: Free plan with per-label fees only. Lite €33/mo monthly or €26/mo annual plus ~€0.10-0.11 per label. Growth €99/mo monthly or €79/mo annual. Sendcloud fully supports ship-from origin in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, and the UK. Conditional support exists for additional countries.
Who should not use Sendcloud: US-only sellers (no US domestic carrier rates). UK sellers split across UK and EU after Brexit may also find the cross-border customs workflow more complex than Easyship's.
8.7/10.
Best for cross-border — Easyship
Easyship is the strongest cross-border pick in this test. The platform displays landed cost (product + shipping + duties + taxes) to international customers at checkout, which can reduce checkout uncertainty and customs disputes for international buyers.
The courier network is the most extensive we tested in the SMB segment: 550+ couriers across 220+ destinations including DHL, FedEx, UPS, USPS, Australia Post, Royal Mail, SF Express, and regional couriers most competitors miss. DDP and DDU label automation is built in based on destination rules.
Free plan covers up to 50 shipments/month with discounted rates and tax/duty calculation. Plus at $29/mo annual unlocks checkout rates display and custom courier accounts. Premier $99/mo annual adds returns and multi-box. Scale $359/mo annual handles up to 5,000 shipments.
Who should not use Easyship: US-only sellers under $500K/year — the Plus/Premier tiers add cost above what ShipStation charges for similar feature scope on domestic US. UI is less refined for batch printing than ShipStation.
8.5/10.
Best free entry tier — Shippo
Shippo's Free Starter plan has no monthly fee and supports up to 30 labels/month with discounted rates from major US carriers. For sellers below 30 shipments/month, this avoids the $14.99 ShipStation Starter fee entirely. Pro tier is $19/mo monthly (effective ~$17/mo at $205/year annual billing) for up to 200 labels/month.
The platform supports 100+ carriers and native integrations with Shopify, Amazon, eBay, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Etsy. Trade-off: dashboard UX is less polished than ShipStation. Batch printing is slower. Reporting is shallower.
Who should not use Shippo: sellers above 200 labels/month who need automation rules. At that volume ShipStation Standard $29.99/mo offers better value and more refined workflow. Sellers needing landed-cost or DDP automation should pick Easyship.
Why not Pirate Ship instead? Pirate Ship offers some of the lowest USPS rates and now supports UPS (no FedEx or DHL), with no monthly fee and a narrower feature set. For pure USPS+UPS shipping under 100 packages/month, Pirate Ship can beat Shippo on cost. Once you need rate-shopping across multiple carriers, automation rules, or international shipping, Shippo wins.
8.6/10.
Best outsourced fulfillment — ShipBob
ShipBob is the right call if you do not want to run a warehouse or pack orders. They store inventory across US fulfillment centers, pick and pack each order, and ship using their negotiated carrier rates. Pricing is quote-based and varies by SKU dimensions, weight, storage volume, and order velocity.
In our modeled scenario for a 500-order/month DTC store with 50 SKUs, ShipBob quotes typically landed in the $2,000-4,000/month range, all-in (pick, pack, ship, storage). That excludes any warehouse labor or lease costs you save by outsourcing.
ShipBob makes sense above ~500 orders/month when warehouse labor and lease costs exceed ShipBob's fees. Below 200 orders/month, ShipBob is typically more expensive than self-fulfillment with ShipStation plus your own packing setup.
Who should not use ShipBob: sellers below 200 orders/month, sellers with very large or heavy items (per-unit storage charges scale fast), sellers needing custom packaging or unboxing experience that requires hands-on quality control.
8.5/10.
How to pick by business stage
Match your stage to the shortlist:
- 0-30 labels/month: Shippo Free or Pirate Ship
- 30-500 labels/month, US-heavy: ShipStation Starter or Standard
- 30-500 labels/month, EU-heavy: Sendcloud Lite
- 30-500 labels/month, 20%+ international: Easyship Plus
- 500-2,500/month, in-house fulfillment: ShipStation Standard or Premium
- 500-2,500/month, want to outsource: ShipBob (request quote)
- 2,500+/month, in-house: ShipStation Premium or EasyPost/ShipEngine API
- 2,500+/month, international-heavy: Easyship Scale or enterprise quote
Mixed operations should test the two best matches with the free tier or trial. ShipStation, Easyship, Shippo, and Sendcloud all have genuine free or low-cost entry options that let you process real shipments before committing.
Pricing assumptions
All prices above exclude postage, carrier surcharges, insurance, per-label platform fees, and pick/pack/storage charges for 3PLs. ShipStation, Easyship, and Sendcloud charge subscription only. Shippo charges per-label fees in addition to subscription. ShipBob is quote-based with itemized pick, pack, ship, and storage line items. Verify your specific scenario with each vendor before committing. Published pricing changes frequently and may not reflect promotional pricing or volume discounts available to you.
Alternatives not included
Five platforms we evaluated but did not feature here:
- Pirate Ship — Free, USPS + UPS only, no FedEx/DHL. Best for pure USPS-heavy micro-businesses under 100 labels/month. Lacks automation depth.
- Shopify Shipping — Built into Shopify, USPS + UPS + DHL Express. Adequate for Shopify-native sellers under 100 orders/month. Lacks rate-shopping across non-bundled carriers.
- EasyPost / ShipEngine — Shipping API for developers building custom shipping workflows. Better fit for marketplaces, ERPs, and SaaS companies than typical SMB sellers.
- AfterShip — Post-purchase tracking and customer notifications, not a label-creation platform. Complements rather than replaces shipping software.
- Ordoro — Inventory + shipping bundled platform. Good if you need multi-channel inventory sync. Less refined than ShipStation for pure shipping.

Frequently asked questions
Which is cheapest at 500 shipments per month?
For self-fulfillment: ShipStation Standard at $29.99/mo is the cheapest flat-rate option. Easyship Plus at $29/mo annual is comparable but caps near 500 shipments. Shippo Pro at $19/mo monthly is cheapest if you stay within 200 labels. Higher Shippo tiers approach Standard pricing above that volume. For outsourced fulfillment: ShipBob's quoted range for 500 orders/month is $2,000-4,000/mo all-in, which is not directly comparable to software-only subscriptions because it includes warehouse labor and storage.
Can I use multiple shipping platforms together?
Yes, though uncommon. Some sellers split US-domestic on ShipStation and international on Easyship to optimize per-region. Sendcloud + ShipStation can work for transatlantic sellers (Sendcloud for EU, ShipStation for US). The platform fee for running two systems typically offsets any rate savings until combined volume exceeds 1,000+ shipments/month. For most SMBs, pick one platform per fulfillment center.
What about Pirate Ship?
Pirate Ship has no monthly fee and offers some of the lowest USPS rates available, plus UPS support added in recent years. No FedEx or DHL. For pure USPS or USPS+UPS shipping under 100 packages/month, it can beat all five platforms above on cost. Once you need multi-carrier rate-shopping with FedEx/DHL, automation rules, or international tax/duty handling, Pirate Ship falls behind.
Which has the best Shopify integration?
ShipStation, Easyship, and Shippo all have native Shopify apps with order auto-sync. In our test, ShipStation's app had the most mature automation rules. Easyship's app uniquely supports landed cost display at checkout for international orders. Shippo's app is simpler with fewer customization options. Sendcloud has a Shopify app focused on EU carrier selection and localized tracking.
How long does it take to switch platforms?
Plan 1-2 weeks for migration. The work is in re-entering carrier account credentials, rebuilding automation rules, retraining shipping staff, and verifying address book and customer data syncs correctly. Run both platforms in parallel for the first week to catch missing data. The platforms all integrate with the same e-commerce systems, so order history syncs independently.
Do any of these handle returns?
Sendcloud includes a returns portal on paid plans. Easyship includes pre-generated return labels from Premier tier upward. ShipStation has returns features built into Standard and Premium. Shippo offers returns labels as a feature. ShipBob handles returns through their fulfillment network. For complex returns workflows or returns analytics, dedicated tools like Loop Returns or Returnly may be a better fit.
Why these 5 and not others?
We picked the five platforms that consistently come up in SMB to mid-market e-commerce operations research. Each represents a distinct operational model: in-house US (ShipStation), in-house EU (Sendcloud), cross-border (Easyship), low-volume entry (Shippo), and outsourced 3PL (ShipBob). The "Alternatives not included" section above covers the second-tier picks we evaluated.
